In fact, some of today’s leading companies had their roots in shell mergers. For example, Turner Broadcasting System was the result of a merger that Ted Turner engineered with a public shell called Rice Broadcasting in 1970. Occidental Petroleum, Blockbuster Entertainment and Radio Shack also hatched from shell mergers. Lets’ not forget Berkshire Hathaway and most notably the New York Stock Exchange which went public last year using a reverse shell merger.
