Key Players

Other than the CFO position, that we have already mentioned in my previous blog posting, there are several other key players that you will need to accomplish your goal of going public. The first thing you need is a good investment banker. He can explain, in detail, the entire transaction from beginning to end. He should also be able to suggest a reputable, independent accounting firm that is experienced in auditing publicly held companies and a competent securities attorney who knows the ropes and can deal with the SEC and NASD regulatory requirements for filing an IPO along with the regulatory obligations when your company’s stock is publicly traded.

These three key persons along with your CFO are the main players you will need for you to move forward with your IPO. Additionally, you will need a very organized office staff to assemble the reams of documents you will have to provide to the accountants, attorneys and investment banker.

By the way, make sure you have all of your documents from the inception of your company organized and in electronic format. Your financials should have already been prepared by your staff and reviewed by your local accountant prior to retaining any of the above individuals. This pre-preparation will save you a small fortune.
