Venture Capitalists are now expanding their horizons as to where to find growth opportunities. After fifty years the Venture Capital community is finally graduated to VC 2.0. Venture Capital (“VC”) has matured and reached critical mass in the US markets and the firms are now seeing explosive opportunities beyond our borders.

The combination of economic globalization and weak markets for initial public offerings and acquisitions are causing consternation for VC firms. To grow and survive, venture firms are thinking “globally” and are moving into new market sectors such as clean technology and alternative energy.

The problem with most VC firms is that they have the “next Google” mentality. They desperately want to invest in companies that, in their minds eye, have the potential for billion dollar market caps. And the best way for them to find the next Google is to invest in companies whose business plans are global in scope. Once a VC firm has decided to seek companies that are global in nature it does not matter where the companies are located.
